StorageTek® T9940 Tape Drive
The StorageTek T9940 "capacity-centric"
tape drive offers exceptional storage capacity for business applications
such as growing archive, backup, record-retention and disaster recovery
needs. The ultra-reliable T9940 offers a superior combination of
capacity, speed and robustness, in a compact and economical package.
- A massive 60 gigabyte (native) capacity per
cartridge. With compression this typically means 120 to 240 or
more gigabytes on a
- single piece of media. Store a petabyte (1000
terabytes) in a single StorageTek automated tape library.
- 10 megabytes per second native (up to 37 megabytes
compressed)
- Heterogeneous attachment via ESCON, SCSI and
native Fibre Channel connectivity - provides SAN readiness.
- Advanced engineering componentry and packaging
provide the best in data reliability and availability, together
with robustness for exceptionally high duty-cycles.

A T9940 capacity-centric tape drive solution works seamlessly with
current StorageTek libraries and with Virtual Storage Manager (VSM),
so you can enhance the value of your infrastructure investment.
The T9940 can help you provide your customers what they need most:
fast, economical, robust and accessible storage of ever-increasing
amounts of data.

| Individual compression achieved
is a function of many variables, including the data characteristics.
For example, scientific data usually compresses less than
general business data. As a practical guide, mainframe
(MVS/ESCON) compression rates are typically 4:1, while
client server operating systems (UNIX/NT on SCSI or Fibre)
usually achieve in the 2:1 to 2.5:1 range. In all instances,
slightly lower or significantly higher numbers may be
achieved. |
