StorageTek® Super DLT Tape Drive
StorageTek has offered DLTtape technology
for its libraries longer than any other tape automation manufacturer.
With SDLT, our customers' investments and invaluable data are further
protected.
StorageTek advances its support of new technologies
to help our customers more efficiently manage their data. SDLT is
a solid choice for archiving and backing up large volumes of information
for StorageTek tape libraries in mid-range UNIX and Windows NT environments.
Key Customer Benefits
- Native capacity of 110GB per cartridge.
- Fast 11MB/second sustained data transfer rate.
- Backward-read compatibility to previous DLTtape
formats.
- Uncompromising reliability and data integrity.
StorageTek® has announced its support for
Quantum's Super DLTtape (SDLT) drive technology. SDLT is Quantum's
newest generation of their DLTtape technology. With already more
than 100,000 DLTtape drives installed into StorageTek tape libraries,
these customers are able to continue with this roadmap.
The Super DLTtape (SDLT) tape drive is based
upon the new Laser Guided Magnetic Recording (LGMR) technology which
uses a unique combination of the best optical and magnetic technologies
to dramatically increase the number of recording tracks on the data-bearing
surface of the media.
As today's de facto standard for backup and
archiving for mid-range servers and high-end workstations, DLTtape
offers market-leadership investment protection. Super DLTtape will
also be available with optional backward compatibility with DLTtape
IV data cartridges, further protecting StorageTek customers' investments.
This will permit backward Read functionality with these tape cartridges
designed for the DLTtape 4000, 7000 and 8000 drive series.
- Boasts a native capacity of 110GB per cartridge
- Native transfer rate of 11MB/sec (39.6GB/hour)
- 1,000,000 tape passes (17,850 uses)
- 250,000 MTBF at 100% duty cycle
- Ideal for server backup, restore and archival
applications
StorageTek is supporting these new technologies to further our
market leadership in tape and tape automation. On the L700 and L180
tape libraries, adaptive media technology supports up to twelve
StorageTek 9840/9940 tape drives, or twenty DLT, SDLT or LTO Ultrium
tape drives. Any of these drives can be mixed in different combinations.
