IBM 7332 4mm DDS Tape Cartridge Autoloader

The 7332 family of 4mm tape cartridge autoloaders provide an externally-attached cost effective tape storage solution consisting of proven 4mm tape drive technology and a tape autoloader. The table-top unit, which is designed to attach to IBM RS/6000 servers and workstations, includes one 7206 4mm tape drive, robotics and a cartridge magazine with slots for 4mm cartridges. It operates in streaming mode by using the autoloader to sequentially feed cartridges.

The two models of the 7332 tape autoloader incorporate increasingly sophisticated technology and higher performance. Both models use proven Digital Audio Tape (DAT) / Digital Data Storage (DDS) tape technologies.

• The 7332 Model 110 uses the 12GB tape drive implemented in the IBM 7206 Model 110 DDS-3 Tape Drive.
• The 7332 Model 220 uses the 7206 Model 220 DDS-4 40GB capacity tape drive.

The features, functional and performance characteristics associated with each of the 7206 drives are provided in their respective 7332 Tape Cartridge Autoloader.

A device driver used by save/restore utilities of the AIX operating system is provided. Further ease of use is attainable when the 7332 is managed by industry-standard tape management software solutions.

Both of the 7332 Tape Cartridge Autoloaders are backward read and write compatible for two previous generations of DDS tape cartridges. Investment protection is provided by this enhanced migration and data interchange capability.
