IBM 3580 LTO Ultrium
2 Drive

The
IBM Ultrium Tape Drive offers breakthroughs in reliability, capacity
and performance to meet the backup and archival needs for small
to midrange environments.
- IBM unique contoured, flat head
design and patented surface control guiding.
|
- High capacity -- up to 400 GB/cartridge,
compressed.
|
- Increased data transfer rates
-- 35 MB/sec native and up to 70 MB/sec compressed.
|
- Easy to understand drive information
with continuous LCD status display.
|
- Superior data and media reliability.
|
- Cost-effective since there are
fewer cartridges to buy and store.
|
- Fast backup, save/restore and
archival storage.
|
- Excellent entry-level, table top
Ultrium tape backup solution.
|
- Adheres to widely supported Linear
Tape-Open (LTO) design specifications.
|
| Ultrium 2
models of the IBM TotalStorage Ultrium External Tape Drive have
a capacity of up to 400 GB with compression (2:1) with the use
of the new IBM TotalStorage LTO Ultrium 200 GB Data Cartridge.
IBM Ultrium 2 Tape Drives can read and write first generation
LTO Ultrium Data Cartridges at original capacities and with
improved performance. As your needs grow, you can build on this
storage investment by moving to higher capacity and performance
automated libraries employing the new IBM Ultrium 2 tape drive
technology. With its higher capacity
and tape drive performance that more than doubles up to 35MB/sec
native data transfer rate (70 MB/sec with 2:1 compression),
the new IBM Ultrium External Tape Drive 3580 is an excellent
alternative to DLT/SDLT; 1/4-inch, 4mm or 8mm tape drives. |

| Advanced
features |
| The IBM TotalStorage Ultrium
External Tape Drive 3580 features Ultra 160 SCSI Low Voltage
Differential (LVD) or Ultra SCSI High Voltage Differential (HVD)
interfaces and can attach to IBM and non-IBM servers and workstations
that support these interfaces. As a SCSI-attached tape solution,
the IBM Ultrium External Tape Drive connects to Fibre Channel
server adapters through selected IBM Storage Area Network Data
Gateway products. The IBM 3580 has
an LCD display and indicators for write protection, tape in
use, drive cleaning, and data compression. |
| |
| Software
support |
| You can increase the power of
the IBM TotalStorage Ultrium External Tape Drive by managing
it with tape management solutions such as Tivoli® Storage Manager
or other third party storage software. |
| |
| Why
IBM LTO? |
| LTO is an open tape architecture
developed by a consortium of three world-class storage producers.
IBM Ultrium drives share best-of-breed
technology with advanced multi-track recording capabilities,
magneto-resistive (MR) head and servo technologies, and high
recording densities. Error correction code (ECC) function
helps support data integrity. |
